Craft/Work presents it’s fifth panel discussion and workshop next week!
Technology in Art and Craft
Tuesday, March 18th
6:30-9:30pm @ Beauty and Brawn Gallery, Logan Square, Chicago
With every new technological advance, the landscape of art and craft has been altered. The introduction of computers and digital technology into the artists’ studio has brought up questions about the role of the hand in making, the relevance of physical objects and the merging of art and design. Join panelists Jesse Seay, Amanda Hagemann and David Demaree for a discussion about how new technologies has effected their artistic and professional careers.
Amanda Hagemann is a textile designer for Kohls. Before making the move the Milwaukee, WI, she spent a year working for the digital textile print company, Spoonflower. Her fine art has combined textiles and electronics.
David Demaree is a web designer and product manager for Adobe Typekit, as well as a speaker and author of some renown on the subjects of design, type, and technology. He’s currently working on a book about Git and GitHub to be published in late 2014.
Jesse Seay is a fine artist who works with electronics, textiles and sound. “I’m fascinated with mechanical movement, its patterns and sounds, the simple machines that drive it.” Her work will be featured in the Craft/Work exhibit.
This panel discussion will be followed by a handmade wire speaker workshop with Jesse Seay. All parts of this event are free and open to the public!Beauty and Brawn Gallery is wheelchair accessible but, unfortunately, the bathroom is not. Contact us about any accessibility needs and we can try to figure out accommodations.**Please note! The gallery can get a bit chilly on cold winter nights and the owner has asked that attendees remove their shoes when entering the gallery to preserve the floors. Please dress warmly! And BYO house-shoes or slippers if you’d like.
